Tedizolid

What is Tedizolid

Tedizolid is an oxazolidinone antibiotic approved for the treatment of acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) caused by certain susceptible bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant strains), various Streptococcus species, and Enterococcus faecalis.

Two clinical trials demonstrated that tedizolid was as effective as linezolid for the treatment of ABSSSI. The safety and effectiveness of tedizolid have not been evaluated in patients with neutropenia.

Tedizolid is a weak, nonspecific MAO inhibitor, but theoretically, tedizolid may have less MAO inhibition in vitro than linezolid.

The most common side effects identified in the clinical trials were nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, and dizziness. Tedizolid was FDA-approved in June 2014.
