What is a mediastinal pancreatic pseudocyst?
A mediastinal pancreatic pseudocyst is an encapsulated collection of pancreatic secretions that does not have an epithelial lining and is almost always located in the inferoposterior mediastinum. A mediastinal pancreatic pseudocyst is due to extension of fluid through the esophageal or aortic hiatus of the diaphragm in the setting of pancreatitis.
