How is pseudomembranous colitis diagnosed?
Pseudomembranous colitis is typically diagnosed through stool assays or visualization of characteristic adherent yellow plaques on endoscopy. Yet, in some cases, the diagnosis is not clinically suspected and is first suggested based on imaging. When left untreated, pseudomembranous colitis can result in significant mortality and morbidity. Therefore, recognition of the characteristic imaging findings of this disease is important.
