How is TTP diagnosed

What tests can be used to help diagnose TTP?

In hereditary TTP, a genetic mutation of ADAMTS13 in the absence of an autoantibody is required for a diagnosis. In TTP, an assay to detect ADAMTS13 activity can be obtained.

A level indicating less than 10% normal enzyme activity helps support the clinical diagnosis of TTP. The level is not sufficiently sensitive or specific and therefore needs to be used in addition to the patient’s clinic presentation
