Urokinase

What is Urokinase

Urokinase is an enzyme produced by the kidney. Tissue cultures of human kidney cells are used to produce the drug. Urokinase is a parenteral thrombolytic agent that is only indicated for lysis of pulmonary emboli.

More improvement on pulmonary angiography, lung perfusion scanning, and hemodynamic measurements within 24 hours occurred with urokinase receipt as compared with heparin receipt, but no significant treatment-associated difference, as determined by lung perfusion scanning, was noted by day 7.
