What is Tranexamic Acid
Tranexamic acid is an oral and injectable antifibrinolytic agent indicated for short-term use to reduce or prevent hemorrhage and reduce the need for replacement therapy during and after tooth extraction in patients with hemophilia and for the treatment of cyclic heavy menstrual bleeding.
Tranexamic acid may increase the risk of thromboembolic events. Venous and arterial thrombosis or thromboembolism have been reported in patients treated with tranexamic acid.
Tranexamic acid is contraindicated in patients with active thromboembolic disease or a history or intrinsic risk of thrombosis or thromboembolism.
Tranexamic acid has actions similar to those of aminocaproic acid, but it is approximately 10 times more potent.
