Ticarcillin and Clavulanic Acid

What is Ticarcillin and Clavulanic Acid medicine combination

Timentin(R) is a combination of ticarcillin and clavulanic acid.

Ticarcillin is a parenteral, semisynthetic, extended-spectrum penicillin.

Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that alone has weak antibacterial activity but in combination with ticarcillin extends the spectrum of the drug to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Clinically, ticarcillin-clavulanic acid is used to treat infections requiring treatment with multiple antibiotics or to treat bacteria that are resistant to other gram-negative antibiotics.

Ticarcillin clavulanic acid frequently is used for intra-abdominal infections and respiratory infections.

Ticarcillin clavulanic acid was FDA-approved in April 1985.
