Tinidazole

What is Tinidazole

Tinidazole is an oral nitroimidazole antimicrobial indicated for trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amebiasis, and bacterial vaginosis.

Although not reported with tinidazole, carcinogenicity has been seen in mice and rats treated chronically with nitroimidazole derivatives.

It is unclear if the new primary malignancy findings in lifetime rodent studies indicate a risk to patients taking a short course or single dose of tinidazole.

Therefore, limit tinidazole use to approved indications only and avoid chronic use.
