Ropinirole

What is Ropinirole

Ropinirole is an oral non-ergot alkaloid dopamine agonist.

It is indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms associated with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease in adults, both as early monotherapy and in combination with levodopa.

As with other dopamine agonists, the drug has also proven effective for treating restless leg syndrome (RLS) in adults.

When used as monotherapy in patients with Parkinson’s disease, ropinirole may delay the need for levodopa therapy, thus indicating its usefulness in the early stages of the disease.

FDA approval of ropinirole was initially granted in 1997.
