What is Carbetapentane Pseudoephedrine

NOTE: These products are discontinued in the U.S.products only.

Carbetapentane pseudoephedrine is a combination product which contains an antitussive and a decongestant.

These products are used for cough and nasal congestion associated with the common cold, sinusitis, and other upper respiratory tract conditions.

Carbetapentane is a non-opioid, centrally acting cough suppressant. The antitussive effect of carbetapentane is less potent than that of opiates.

However, unlike opiates, carbetapentane has not been associated with substance abuse.

Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic agent that stimulates alpha1-adrenergic receptors in vascular smooth muscle.

This causes vasoconstriction, resulting in shrinkage of nasal mucous membranes, reduction of tissue hyperemia and edema, and an increase in nasal airway patency.
