What percentage of patients with TB have bone or joint involvement?
One fourth of the world’s population is infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB).
In the United States, the immunocompromised, recent immigrants, and people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remain at greatest risk of infection. Extrapulmonary disease accounts for 20% of all cases of TB. Approximately 1% to 3% of all presentations of TB and 10% of all cases of extrapulmonary TB have osteoarticular involvement.
