What is typhlitis?
Typhlitis, also called neutropenic enterocolitis, occurs in patients undergoing treatment for malignancy such as acute leukemia, aplastic anemia, lymphoma, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and solid organ transplantation. The exact etiology is unknown but is thought to be mucosal injury initiated by a combination of ischemia, infection, hemorrhage, and neoplastic infiltration of the bowel wall.
