Most common cause for mortality in the elderly with chronic kidney disease

What is the most common cause for mortality in the elderly with chronic kidney disease?

The presence of CKD adds further burden to underlying cardiovascular risks and disease noted with age. As prevalence of hypertension increases with age, lipid abnormalities are also seen with aging and CKD. Dyslipidemia in the elderly is characterized by increased triglyceride levels, small high-dense low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and a low concentration of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), characteristics similar to CKD. Therefore it is not unusual that mortality in elderly with CKD results more from cardiovascular causes than in the progression of kidney disease and kidney failure. Cardiovascular risk management in elderly with CKD becomes particularly important.
