How common is hyperphosphatemia

How common is hyperphosphatemia?

The incidence of hyperphosphatemia is largely determined by kidney function. In unselected hospitalized patients, the rate is about 9%. The patients with hyperphosphatemia had an average estimated GFR (eGFR) of 22 mL/min/1.73 m 2 , while the patients with normal phosphorus were 93 mL/min/ 1.73 m 2 . Among patients on dialysis, the rate is 47%, despite using a looser definition for hyperphosphatemia (1.77 instead of 1.45 mmol/L).
