What is Vinblastine

Vinblastine is a member of the vinca alkaloid class of naturally occurring cancer chemotherapy agents, which are extracted from the Catharanthus rosea or periwinkle plant.

Vinblastine is similar to vincristine in action and structure, but their toxicities and spectrum of activity differ significantly.

Vinblastine has the shortest terminal half-life and highest clearance of all available vinca alkaloids.

Vinblastine is a cell cycle-phase specific agent used in the management of many different malignancies including breast carcinoma, bladder carcinoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, melanoma, and testicular carcinoma. The FDA approved vinblastine in 1961.
