Tamoxifen

What is Tamoxifen

Tamoxifen is an oral selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), which has both estrogenic and antiestrogenic effects on various tissues.

It competes with estrogen for binding to the estrogen receptor, which can decrease estrogen receptor signaling-dependent growth in breast tissue.

It is approved for the adjuvant treatment of breast cancer and for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

It is also used to reduce the risk of invasive breast cancer in women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) after surgery and radiation, and to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk for breast cancer.
