Rizatriptan (MK-462)

What is Rizatriptan

Rizatriptan (MK-462) is a central serotonin-receptor 1B and 1D agonist. It is indicated for the treatment of acute migraine attacks with or without aura.

Rizatriptan is not indicated for prophylactic therapy of migraine or for the treatment of hemiplegic or basilar migraines or cluster headaches.

The efficacy and side effect profile of rizatriptan seems to be dose-dependent with the 10 mg dose being slightly more effective and causing a slight increase in adverse effects as compared to the 5 mg dose.
