Hydrochlorothiazide Metoprolol

Hydrochlorothiazide Metoprolol Brand Names- DUTOPROL | Lopressor HCT

What is Hydrochlorothiazide Metoprolol

Hydrochlorothiazide Metoprolol are used together in an oral preparation to treat hypertension.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic. Metoprolol is a competitive, beta1-selective (cardioselective) adrenergic antagonist, which is most similar to atenolol.

Metoprolol has moderate lipid solubility, lacks intrinsic sympathomimetic activity (ISA), and has weak membrane stabilizing activity (MSA). Metoprolol is more lipid-soluble than atenolol, but less lipid-soluble than propranolol or betaxolol.

The degree of lipid solubility affects the route of elimination of metoprolol (extensively metabolized) and, theoretically, its potential for CNS side effects. Metoprolol has a relatively short elimination half-life compared to other cardioselective beta-blockers.

Lopressor HCT was approved by the FDA in December 1984.

Dutoprol tablets (extended-release metoprolol succinate and immediate-release hydrochlorothiazide) were approved by the FDA in August 2006 but did not become commercially available in the United States until 2012.
