Hydrochlorothiazide Moexipril

Hydrochlorothiazide Moexipril Brand Name– Uniretic

What is Hydrochlorothiazide Moexipril

Hydrochlorothiazide Moexipril are used together in an oral preparation to treat hypertension.

These ingredients have additive hypotensive activity. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic.

Moexipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Moexipril can counteract the hypokalemia caused by hydrochlorothiazide. Like quinapril and ramipril, the active moiety of moexipril is produced by de-esterification from the prodrug.

Moexiprilat, is about 1000 times more potent than its prodrug moexipril. Prolonged antihypertensive effects allow for once daily dosing. Unlike captopril, moexipril does not contain a sulfhydryl group, which has implications regarding the drug’s adverse reaction profile.

Like other ACE inhibitors, moexipril monotherapy is less effective in black hypertensive patients (a low-renin hypertensive population); however, efficacy when combined with hydrochlorothiazide appears to be independent of race.

Uniretic was granted FDA approval for the treatment of hypertension on June 27, 1997.
