Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovir Alafenamide

Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovir Alafenamide Brand Name– BIKTARVY

What is Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovir Alafenamide

Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovir Alafenamide is an oral 3-drug combination of a human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) and 2 nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) indicated as a complete regimen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing 25 kg or more who have no antiretroviral treatment history or to replace the current antiretroviral regimen in those who are virologically suppressed on a stable antiretroviral regimen with no history of treatment failure and no known substitutions associated with resistance to bictegravir, emtricitabine, or tenofovir alafenamide.

Bictegravir Emtricitabine Tenofovir Alafenamide contains 2 medications used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection (tenofovir and emtricitabine); however, it is not approved for this indication, nor is it indicated for the treatment of the patient coinfected with HBV and HIV.

All patients should be tested for HBV infection prior to initiating treatment with bictegravir; emtricitabine; tenofovir alafenamide. T

he package labeling has a Black Box Warning that acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have been reported in patients after discontinuation of tenofovir DF and emtricitabine.
