Where is a popliteal (Baker) cyst located, and what is its significance?
A popliteal cyst is a bursa that is contiguous with the knee joint in the posterior knee. It usually herniates between the tendons of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle and the semimembranosus muscle.
Rupture of a popliteal cyst can be symptomatic and can often be confused with deep venous thrombosis.
