What medical conditions are associated with a positive ANA?
Pearl: A positive ANA in a person with a single autoimmune clinical manifestation, such as discoid lupus, Raynaud’s, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, or idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, increases their risk for developing other manifestations of a connective tissue disease in the future. Similarly, the ANA also provides prognostic value for patients with oligoarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis in regard to risk for the development of subsequent uveitis.
