Tarsal tunnel

What is the tarsal tunnel, and what does it contain?

The tarsal tunnel is located on the medial aspect of the ankle and contains the flexor tendons (posterior tibial, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus) as well as the posterior tibial artery, vein, and nerve. The tunnel begins superiorly at the medial malleolus and extends inferiorly to the navicular bone. It is bordered laterally by the calcaneus and medially by the flexor retinaculum. The abductor hallucis muscle forms its floor.
