Symptoms of HIVAN
How does HIVAN present clinically?
HIVAN is almost exclusively found in patients of African ancestry (90%) who have active HIV viral replication.
It is rarely an early presentation in the course of HIV, and most patients with HIVAN have a CD4 count <200 and a viral load of >400 copies/mL.
How HIV was acquired in the first place is not important; however, the degree of HIV activity is the key to developing HIVAN.
