Significance of a heel spur

What is the significance of a heel spur?

A heel spur (osteophyte) develops at the origin of the flexor brevis muscle just superior to the plantar fascia in approximately 50% of patients with plantar fasciitis. However, the spur is not a source of pain and is present in 20% of similar-age adults who do not have plantar fasciitis.
