Rheumatic syndromes associated with primary hyperparathyroidism
- • Painless proximal muscle weakness with normal muscle enzymes, but a neuropathic EMG.
- • Chondrocalcinosis with pseudogout attacks usually owing to calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals.
- • Osteogenic synovitis due to subchondral bony collapse from thinning of bone (leading to osteoarthritis and subsequent reactive synovitis).
- • Osteoporosis.
- • Ectopic soft-tissue calcifications.
- • Tendon ruptures.
