Nasal Foreign Body

What is Nasal Foreign Body

Nasal foreign body is an object that gets stuck in your nose. If this happens, you need to get medical help right away. Do not try to remove the object yourself.

An object in your nose can cause:

  • Pain in your nose or face.
  • Irritation in your nose.
  • Trouble with swallowing.

Follow these instructions at home:

  • Take over-the-counter and prescription medicines only as told by your doctor.
  • If you were prescribed an antibiotic medicine, use it as told by your doctor. Do not stop using the antibiotic even if your condition improves.
  • Pay attention to any changes in your symptoms.
  • Keep all follow-up visits as told by your doctor. This is important.

Contact a doctor if:

  • You start to drool more.
  • Blood and fluid do not stop leaking from your nose.
  • You have:
    • A cough that does not go away.
    • An earache.
    • A headache.
    • Pain near your cheeks or your eyes.

Get help right away if:

  • You get chest pain.
  • You have a lot of blood leaking from your nose.
  • You have a fever.
  • You have pus or bad-smelling fluid (discharge) coming from your nose.
