MRI appearance of plantar fasciitis
The plantar fascia originates from the calcaneus and is composed of three bands: the medial, central, and lateral bands. The central band is the largest and most commonly involved in the setting of plantar fasciitis. Normally, the plantar fascia is a thin band, which is low in signal intensity on all imaging sequences. Plantar fasciitis can be diagnosed when there is thickening of the origin of the plantar fascia, often with hyperintensity on T2 weighted images due to edema.
