Histopathologic findings of Sepsis associated acute kidney injury
What are the histopathologic findings associated with AKI resulting from sepsis?
There is no consistent or typical kidney histopathologic pattern, and the fall in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is often much greater than would be anticipated from the bland histology observed.
In part, this is a result of a lack of data, because kidney biopsies are not typically performed in these critically ill patients.
Acute tubular necrosis may be seen in some cases and is simply the end-result of overlapping ischemic and immune-mediated injury to the tubules.
