Does running or jogging predispose to Osteoarthritis?
Previous joint injury and repetitive impact loading predispose to the development of OA, raising the question of whether runners are at increased risk for developing OA in the knee and hip. Although there is some disagreement in the literature, most of the present data suggest that in the absence of previous joint injury, recreational runners do not develop OA in the knee or hip at higher rates than others. However, highly competitive, elite runners may have an increased risk.
