What are the complications of Membranous Nephropathy?
The main complications of Membranous Nephropathy are related to presence of nephrotic syndrome including hypogammaglobulinemia and increased risk of infection, hypovitaminosis D due to loss of vitamin D binding protein, and most importantly increased risk of thromboembolic event, with an incidence as high as 50% in patients with severe proteinuria.
An increased risk of cardiovascular events in particular in the first 2 years in the setting of severe nephrosis is well documented in this population.
