Ann Arbor Staging System of Lymphoma (HL and NHL)

  • I—Involvement of a single lymphatic site (nodal region, Waldeyer’s ring, thymus, or spleen)
    • IE—Localized involvement of a single extralymphatic site
  • II—Involvement of ≥2 lymph node regions on the same side of the diaphragm
    • IIE—Localized involvement of a single extralymphatic site associated with regional lymph node involvement without or with involvement of other lymph node regions on the same side of the diaphragm
  • III—Involvement of lymph node regions on both sides of the diaphragm
    • IIIE—Involvement of lymph node regions on both sides of the diaphragm accompanied by extralymphatic extension
    • IIIS—Involvement of lymph node regions on both sides of the diaphragm accompanied by involvement of the spleen
    • IIIES—Involvement of lymph node regions on both sides of the diaphragm accompanied by extralymphatic extension and involvement of the spleen
  • IV—Diffuse or disseminated involvement of ≥1 extralymphatic organ without or with lymph node involvement, or isolated extralymphatic organ involvement in absence of adjacent regional lymph node involvement but with disease in distant site(s); this includes any involvement of the liver, bone marrow, lungs (other than by direct extension from another site), or cerebrospinal fluid
