What is Typhoid Vaccine
Typhoid vaccine is available as a sterile solution containing purified Vi polysaccharide extracted from the bacterial capsule of Salmonella typhi for intramuscular use (Typhim Vi) or a live attenuated vaccine for oral use (Vivotif).
These preparations are used to promote active immunity to typhoid fever for individuals who are at risk of infection.
Routine vaccination with typhoid vaccine is not recommended in the US.
Selective vaccination is recommended for persons who travel to areas where there is a recognized risk of exposure to S. typhi, persons with intimate exposure to a documented S. typhi carrier, and persons who frequently work with S. typhi in microbiology laboratories.

Indications
- typhoid prophylaxis
For primary immunization against typhoid disease cause by Salmonella typhi (typhoid prophylaxis) in persons at risk of infection
