What is Phenylephrine and Ketorolac

Phenylephrine and ketorolac sterile solution is a combination of an alpha 1-adrenergic receptor agonist (phenylephrine) and a nonselective cyclooxygenase inhibitor (ketorolac).

The solution is added to an ophthalmic irrigation solution and is used during cataract surgery or intraocular lens replacement to maintain pupil size by preventing intraoperative miosis and also assists in reducing post-operative pain.

Contraindications

  • asthma
  • breast-feeding
  • cardiac disease
  • intravenous administration
  • labor
  • NSAID hypersensitivity
  • pregnancy
  • salicylate hypersensitivity
