Meclofenamate Sodium

What is Meclofenamate Sodium

Meclofenamate Sodium is a member of the anthranilic acid (fenamate) group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs);mefenamic acid is also a member of the fenamate class of NSAIDs.

Meclofenamate is used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain including dysmenorrhea and arthritis.

Like other NSAIDs, meclofenamate may cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse effects including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines and may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke.

The lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration is recommended, as the risk for adverse effects may increase with duration of use.

Meclofenamate was FDA-approved in June 1980.
