Hydrochlorothiazide Lisinopril

Hydrochlorothiazide Lisinopril Brand Names- Prinzide | Zestoretic

What is Hydrochlorothiazide Lisinopril

Hydrochlorothiazide Lisinopril are combined in an oral formulation for the treatment of hypertension.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a commonly used thiazide diuretic. Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. These components have additive hypotensive activity. Lisinopril can counteract the hypokalemia caused by the hydrochlorothiazide.

Although black hypertensive patients (a low-renin hypertensive population) usually have a smaller than average response to lisinopril monotherapy than non-black patients, combination therapy with lisinopril plus hydrochlorothiazide is similarly effective in black and non-black patients. Prinzide® was granted FDA approval for the treatment of hypertension in February 1989 for all product strengths.

Zestoretic® (20—25 tablets) was first approved by the FDA in July 1989 (subsequent lower dosage formulations were introduced in September 1990 and November 1993).
