Ceftazidime Avibactam Brand Name– AVYCAZ
What is Ceftazidime Avibactam
Ceftazidime avibactam is a combination product consisting of a third-generation cephalosporin and a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
The drug is indicated for the treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections (when used in combination with metronidazole) and complicated urinary tract infections in adult and pediatric patients 3 months and older.
It is also indicated for hospital-acquired and ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP) in adult patients.
Approval was based on the results of several randomized phase 2 and phase 3 studies and on previous findings regarding safety and efficacy of ceftazidime.
Decreased efficacy was seen in adult patients with complicated intra-abdominal infections and baseline CrCl 30 to 50 mL/minute during clinical trials; monitor renal function daily in all patients with changing renal function with dose adjustment as needed.
