What is Calcium and Vitamin D combination

Calcium and vitamin D is a combination dietary supplement intended to help in maintaining adequate daily intake of calcium and vitamin D and to prevent or treat calcium deficiency.

Calcium and vitamin D is also used to prevent osteoporosis, especially in postmenopausal women, and to ameliorate symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.

Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium from the stomach, as well as the functioning of calcium in the body.

The combination may be particularly beneficial in patients with inadequate vitamin D intake, with impaired renal activation of vitamin D, or not receiving adequate sunlight exposure.

Calcium carbonate is the most common form of calcium used in combination with vitamin D, although some manufactures use calcium citrate, calcium phosphate, or calcium derived from natural sources such as oyster shells.

Calcium is essential for the maintenance of the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems and for cell membrane and capillary permeability.

Its role in bone structure and muscle contraction is well known, but calcium is also important for blood coagulation, nerve conduction, and electrical conduction in the myocardium.
