What is Bupivacaine Lidocaine

Bupivacaine lidocaine (Duocaine™) is a long-acting local anesthetic combination developed to provide local or regional anesthesia for ophthalmic surgery.

Both bupivacaine and lidocaine are both amide-type local anesthetics and therefore share chemical and pharmacologic properties, although bupivacaine has a higher degree of lipid solubility and is protein bound to a greater extent than lidocaine.

The Duocaine™ brand of bupivacaine lidocaine was approved by the FDA in May 2003.
