What is a phylloides tumor ?
Phylloides tumors are uncommon breast tumors, accounting for less than 1% of breast tumors. They most commonly occur in women in their 30s and 40s. Phylloides tumors are composed of stromal and epithelial elements, similar to fibroadenomas, but can be locally aggressive and demonstrate rapid growth. Wide excision is the treatment of choice with close clinical follow-up, because these lesions can recur if adequate margins are not obtained. On US, these lesions may look similar to fibroadenomas or may demonstrate lobulated or irregular margins.
