What is Thin basement membrane nephropathy (TBMN)?
Thin basement membrane nephropathy is a form of inherited hematuria estimated to occur in 1% of the population.
Thin basement membrane nephropathy is characterized by persistent microscopic hematuria and occasionally episodic macroscopic hematuria.
Proteinuria, hypertension, progressive loss of kidney function, and extrarenal abnormalities are not part of the clinical picture.
The family history reveals individuals with persistent hematuria but none with associated ESKD or hearing loss.
