What is the prognosis of pheochromocytoma?
• 5-year survival:
• 95% in non-malignant pheochromocytoma
• <50% in malignant pheochromocytoma
• Recurrence rate after surgery is <10% in non-malignant pheochromocytoma.
• Resection cures hypertension in 75% of affected patients. In the remaining 25%, hypertension persists but is easier to control with standard antihypertensive agents.
