What is pelvic lipomatosis?
Pelvic lipomatosis is a rare idiopathic disorder characterized by benign hyperplastic overgrowth of pelvic extraperitoneal fatty tissue. It most often occurs in African American men and is associated with compression of the lower urinary tract and rectosigmoid colon. Patients have an increased risk of proliferative cystitis and bladder adenocarcinoma, and ≈40% require urinary diversion to prevent renal failure from obstructive uropathy.
