What are the major causes of mortality in Behcets disease?
• CNS involvement.
• Vascular disease (ruptured pulmonary and peripheral aneurysms).
• Bowel disease (perforation).
Men, younger age at onset, and patients of Middle-Eastern or Far-Eastern descent have the worst prognosis.
Mortality may be 15% to 20% in the first 5 years. However, disease exacerbations and mortality decrease over time.
Ocular lesions causing blindness and neurologic involvement cause the most morbidity.
