Major causes of Congestive Heart Failure in a newborn
Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) may look like CHF on a chest radiograph but is transient. Causes of CHF in a newborn include constitutional problems, such as anemia, hypoglycemia, or sepsis; primary pump problems, such as HLHS; outflow obstructions, such as aortic stenosis or coarctation of the aorta; inflow problems, such as cor triatriatum or mitral valve stenosis; and extracardiac shunts, such as a vein of Galen malformation or a hepatic hemangioendothelioma.
