Indications for kidney angiography

What are the indications for kidney angiography?

• Evaluation of cystic renal artery diseases

• Preoperative evaluation of a complicated donor kidney

• Evaluation and treatment of kidney transplant for renal artery occlusion or stenosis

• Evaluation and treatment of renal vein thrombosis

• Complex kidney masses or complications of polycystic disease or trauma

• Evaluation and treatment of bleeding involving the kidney vasculature (e.g., ruptured angiomyolipoma or following kidney trauma or procedure)

• The use of kidney angiography in the treatment of renovascular hypertension is controversial, especially in light of recent publication of the Cardiovascular Outcomes in Renal Atherosclerotic Lesions (CORAL) study (NEJM. January 2, 2014, vol. 370, no. 1), which suggests medical therapy is similarly efficacious
