In catamenial epilepsy how do hormone changes predispose to seizures
Catamenial epilepsy is defined as a significant increase in seizures during specific menstrual phases.
The main trigger for this is the estrogen to progesterone ratio, which results in increased seizures during the periovulatory/perimenstrual phases.
Such a catamenial pattern is said to occur in about one-third of women with focal epilepsy.
