How is synovial chondromatosis treated?

Treatment is via synovectomy and removal of all the loose bodies. Recurrences occur in up to 11%. Though considered benign, this condition can result in extensive local joint destruction if left untreated. Synovial chondromatosis never metastasizes but may undergo malignant transformation into a chondrosarcoma (up to 6% of patients).
