How does hybrid PET combined with structural imaging such as CT or MRI improve diagnostic performance in cancer patients?
Hybrid PET imaging in conjunction with CT or MRI provides coregistered molecular and structural images, leading to improved image quality, improved anatomic localization of sites of radiotracer uptake, and increased sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and confidence levels of diagnostic interpretation compared to standalone PET. As such, most PET scanners currently utilized in clinical practice are either PET/CT or PET/MRI scanners.
