Is there any evidence for a role of plasmapheresis in lupus nephritis?
The current literature does not support a benefit for the addition of plasmapheresis to immunosuppressive therapy for lupus nephritis. However, there are refractory individual patients for whom there is anecdotal evidence that it may provide some benefit.
One retrospective study suggested that plasmapheresis might be effective in improving the recovery and kidney outcomes in patients with lupus nephritis plus thrombotic microangiopathy.
